Whitney Book Lists

I know I have mentioned this before. The whole concept of the Whitney Awards is very exciting to me. For years I have read books by LDS authors and wondered why I encounter a dismissive attitude towards LDS fiction it whenever I recommend a book to someone. LDS fiction has come a long way in the last twenty years. and I think it is great that we are finally recognizing the talent within our own LDS culture.

I read all the time and to think that I can nominate my favorite books is rather satisfying. I have picked up several new releases and have even made a nomination. (not telling which one :) So now I am trying to come up with a list of all the books I can find that are eligible for the Whitney Awards for 2007. This is rather time consuming, especially since there are so many LDS authors out there who are not published by the LDS publishers. So I am asking for everyone to list a few books they know of that were released this year. I'll add them to the list I am making and post them on another day.

Spires of Stone, Lyon
Land of Promise, Moore
Austenland, Hale
Eclipse, Hale
Please, No Zits!, Bradshaw
The Operative, Gardner

These are the ones I personally know of -- I'm sure there are scads more that I'm not. :)

I'm sorry -- there was a cute two-year-old hanging on my elbow. Eclipse is Meyers, of course, not Hale.

Okay, two-year-old, stop distracting me! Moore's book is Land of Inheritance.

Can I go back to bed now?

Here are a few more that I found.

At Some Disputed Barricade - Anne Perry

Scottish Legend - Sherry Ann Miller

Fablehaven: Rise of the Evening Star - Brandon Mull

I'll keep looking and post a list when I have some more.

Stephanie, I promise I'm going to post something. But I have to go through my books and see what I've read by an LDS person.

I did come up with these so far:

Fury and Light by Chris Stewart
Land of Inheritance by H.B. Moore
Fablehaven by Brandon Sanderson

That's all I've got so far. I'll try to come up with some more.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep posting more if you think of any and I will keep adding them to my list.

Fablehaven was not written by Brandon Sanderson. I really need some sleep.

But Brandon's new book, the name of which is escaping me, is a good one as well.

So I'm thinking Rob Wells and Kerry Blair's 2007 releases aren't eligible, correct? I can't remember if Jeff Savage and Julie Coulter Bellon's books were this year or last year.

But hey...that leaves me with two (count 'em, two!) releases for 2007. Secrets in Zarahemla and Desire of Our Hearts.

Not that I'm, you know, shamelessly self-promoting or anything. Because I would never do that. Never.

Promote away. Thanks for letting me know. I'll add them to my list.

Secrets in Zarahemla was published in 2006 wasn't it?

Sariah Wilson said...

Nope. Secrets came out in February of this year. It was supposed to have come out in 2006, but there was a cover issue.

Secrets is added to the list.
